Memories To Love

Memories To Love

How many lives must we lose
How many children gone too soon
Don’t text and drive it is the law
What a sad lesson to us all

Common sense or so one would think
But then again who would drive and drink
Gone to soon because a mistake was made
And too soon a body to rest was laid

So many tears...so many losses
Too many memorials of roadside crosses
If we learn nothing at all let it be this
Don’t let your child be the next one missed

For death is permanent it can’t be I’m “sorry’d” away
And while you are enjoying the moment...living for today
Don’t be irresponsible...think before you drive
It’s such a blessing to be alive

No message is so important that it can’t wait
We would rather you show up late
Then to watch your car on the news
And to watch your body being viewed

For funerals are sad enough the entire while
Without it being for a teenage child
Because the cell phone clinched in their hand
Became there smoking gun...their last stand

Don’t text and drive save the world a tear
Allow your mom and dad to enjoy you here
You are not invincible as you may think
And life can become shortened in a blink

So put your phone away or wait to leave
Because the loss of a child...cannot be conceived
Until God comes and carries you above
And we are left with only memories to love

Lifting My Hands

Lifting My Hands

My Father who lives in Heaven
As I bend my knees to declare my love
My heart feels so heavy
This will be this which I speak of

When I was a girl I used to dream
Of flying a rocket to the moon
Not about million dollar contracts
Or growing up too soon

I only thought about laughter
And having fun with friends
Not about drinking or drugs
Or fights that no one wins

I never debated religion
Or what our Creator should be called
Only that He was our source of love
The Father of us all

I could never find in any book
The intention of my heart
So I just loved peacefully
Never tearing others apart

I’m not sure when I first noticed
The condition of our world
Somewhere between adulthood
And that naïve little girl

Life began to be look grim
A sad and lonely place
With images so horrifying
They would never be erased

But once I saw a child killed
On a public street
And it wasn’t a movie
But the news on my TV

All of a sudden bloodshed
And violence was all around
And I so missed the days when
Our feet were planted on the ground

If I could have one wish
And have it immediately come true
It would be to have a clean slate
And to make everything brand new

There would be no separation
Or racial barrier lines
Or wars putting brother against brother
And no more picket lines

When our brother talked
We at least considered his stance
And we would give him an opportunity
At least give him a chance

We would be more kind and concerned
When our fellow man was attacked
No more talk about superiority
Or what another person lacked

There would be peace and prosperity
All across our great land
We would walk joyously together
Always reaching for each others hand

There would never come a moment
When any man could decide
That it was acceptable
It batter and abuse his wife

We wouldn’t hear about the terror
That children now do know
We would just plant our seeds of love
And watch them start to grow

Our forests would again flourish
Natural skyscrapers growing still
Animals could roam freely
As it was always your will

Our self destructive nature
Would come to a screeching end
And instead of making enemies
We created great new friends

Some may think this is foolish
That I dream too much
But I say it is never wrong
To expect better things and such

So every day when I close my eyes
Raising my thoughts for mankind to the sky
My wishes are never laughed at
My creator never wonders why

And while my thoughts my seem fruitless
To the ill will of my fellow man
I know my thoughts do please you
And that you understand

While our world is under attack
By its inhabitants each day
I ask for your guidance
And your help along the way

I pray one day what we say
And all the things we do
Will only show our gratitude
And how much that we love you

I lift my hands to Heaven
Knowing until then
You will be watching over us lovingly
Amen

Waiting For You

Waiting For You

A pulse races
Faster every night
She should feel safe
Hidden out of sight

He knows every rhythm
Her heart beats so loud
Like a trapped animal
Again she was found

Bruises, scrapes and cuts
Scars so real
Another is placed
Before others have time to heal

No relief in sight
No help at her beckoned call
Afraid to reach out
She sees no peace at all

She knows people hear her pleas
For help like a beacon in the night
People watching all around
But still...no relief in sight

She is your mom or sister
Or someone she could be
It could happen to anyone
It should be easy to see

But as long as we turn
Away from her plight
We all become her abuser
With no hope in sight

Reach out for her hand
Even if it seems there is no need
You may be her only hope
Her only way to be free

Let the bruises on her face
Be a lesson to us all
Watch out for her stumble
Don’t wait for her to fall

Be the net she needs
To know God loves her too
Time is too precious
And she is waiting for you

The Definition of Me

The Definition of Me

There is no specific formula
Or no particular clue
About the person I really am
And how it relates to you

The color of my hair
And the tint of my eyes
Can easily be changed
But does that mean it’s a lie?

You will never know the real me
Unless you choose to take part
In the inner beauty
Where it ends and where it starts

Luckily for you
I want to show you the signs
Of what is not me
But a part of my design

I can not be defined by the
Religion I may keep
Or by the house I live in
Or the shoes upon my feet

You can not believe that
In only one day
That you know all there is to know
When there is so much to say

I am divine love
I am inner peace
I am my own path
And the truth that I seek

I am loved by God
And His path is mine too
So everyday I will say
How much He loves you too

I am every color of the rainbow
Not just a tone of my skin
And while you may think you know me
You can not ignore what is within

Within my earthly body
Beyond the flash of my smile
I will guide you toward God
And ask that you stay for a while

If you desire to know me
As I want to know you
Stop pointing fingers
In all you say and do

Remember to love your neighbor
No matter4 who they may be
And appreciate your differences
Or the similarities you may see

The definition of whom
I have always been
Is not found on the outside
But the woman within

Sweet Warrior

Sweet Warrior

Although you didn’t realize it
I heard you cry, I know of your pain
And while it may be hard to believe
I, too, have felt the shame

Every blow he has dealt you
I have felt before
And while you may think
You can take no more

Please know that you
Are stronger than steel
Even when you are crying
No matter what you may feel

His attempt to destroy the light
Within your heart
Has failed miserably every time
Of that there is no doubt

I know you feel alone
Because once I did too
He leaves his weakness
On your face...a bruise

I want you to understand
I need you to see
How much you are loved
Starting with me

I love your strength
And the resolve on your face
I love the fact that
He can’t keep up with your pace

I adore the reminder that with you
God always smiles
And even if it feels like
You haven’t seen it in a while

The power behind your smile
In spite of the ongoing pain
Always brings out your sunshine
When he only wants to see rain

The sparkle in which
Your eyes always show
Is a constant reminder
Of the love you now know

God loves you sweet warrior
Never doubt that fact
I know you feel alone
But no matter where you are at

You are being divinely watched over
And his cowardly deeds
Will soon be repaid
With God’s wrath...a fact he should heed

Please hold on to this notion
That you are not alone
And you grow stronger
With every punch that is thrown

And while I will ask you
To please find away
To muster up your strength
And quickly walk away

Until you are able to break free

Know that you aren’t the only one
And God is watching over you
And His will...soon shall be done

God Saw Us Through

God Saw Us Through

As an old year passes
And a new is on its way
I wanted to give thanks
For paths I crossed along the way

It may not have been forever
But in my heart you will stay
Sometimes the largest blessings
Are found at the end of the day

Even though our encounters
May have seemed too brief
Your life is forever written
In my divine memory

Your loss may have caused tears
And your absence may make me sad
But I am thankful for the opportunity
To share the experiences we’ve had

When the New Years bell rings
And lovers embrace
Let us not forget
Those we met along the way

The people who touched us
By simply taking a breath
Never leaving our hearts
Through life...or through death

Let us rejoice in the feeling
That God saw us through
With love and understanding
In all we say and all we do

Falling to our knees
In our most humble of prayers
Asking for guidance
In everything and everywhere

May the New Year bring us
Joy and eternal peace
And guide us down His path
With love and with ease

Join me in wishing
To man and woman alike
Happy Holidays for all
And to all a good night

Dear Santa

Dear Santa

Dear Santa, children will write you all over the world
Telling you they have been good boys and girls

Asking for gifts as rewards for the deeds
Hoping you will fulfill all of their needs

Some will want cars and some will want trains
Some will want dolls and video games

They will hope you come through while they are sleeping
But I have a wish that I have been keeping

I don’t want a present wrapped and topped with a bow
Or battery operated toys that will stop and will go

My wish is for love for people one and all
No matter how short regardless of how tall

I want countries at war to lay down their arms
And learn to love each other and do no more harm

I want daddies and mommies to come home safe and sound
Placing smiles on faces that have only seen frowns

I want children without food to know what it’s like
To have their stomachs filled for more than one night

Santa I need patience...as I learn my way
And hope for tomorrow ...as it’s a new day

I want forgiveness for those who haven’t been nice
Warm their hearts with joy and melt all the ice

Tell the people in foreign lands that they are our brothers
And we are now ready to start...loving each other

I know what I want won’t fit under a tree
It’s my hope for the future...for you and for me

Remind my fellow man the true intention of my heart
Maybe he will forgive me...and we can make a new start

So if you get a chance to read this letter
Tell God I promise next year we’ll do better
